Supporting Families Impacted by Cancer

The proceeds raised at our fundraising events go directly to local families dealing with a cancer diagnosis or recent cancer loss.  Since being established in 2021, DC Villars Foundation of Hope has given over $150,000 in financial support to local families.   Read a few of their incredible stories below.

In July 2022, Eric Daggett, husband of Jennifer and father to Alayna and Reid, was diagnosted with rectal cancer.  He started chemotherapy in August 2022 for 3 months followed by radiation and another round of chemo.

Katie noticed her bowels had changed in May 2022. After having her first colonoscopy at 37 years old, it was confirmed she had Colorectal cancer. She began chemotherapy every other week for four months.

In January 2021, after several months of dealing with pain and bleeding, Jeff was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer along with cancer being present in the liver. Jeff is started his treatment journey with 6, bi-weekly rounds of chemo with surgery and further treatment to follow.

Message from Nicole

My name is Nicole Villars, and I am Doug Villars’ wife. Doug passed away June 4, 2021, after a 3-year battle with Esophageal cancer. After chemo, radiation and surgery Doug went just shy of 1.5 years of clean scans. During routine scans in December 2020, new spots were found on his liver. Six months later, my 38-year-old husband was gone.

Knowing what an impact Doug had on the Oshkosh community, his family, and friends, I knew I had to do something with the platform I was given. And that is how the DC Villars Foundation of Hope was born. Our mission is simple, benefiting local families going through a cancer diagnosis and/or loss while keeping Doug’s legacy alive. Doug connected a lot of special people to make this vision a reality. The village we have built in such a short window of time has had such an overwhelming response; it continues to leave me speechless. Since establishing the foundation in 2021, we have been able to give families over $150,000. We are continuing to grow and bring in new support as we host new and reoccurring events, and that, my friends, leaves me extremely excited. Excited that we are leaving an impact with families affected by cancer in Doug’s honor. How lucky am I?

After Doug died, my purpose became making my little piece of the world a more beautiful place in his honor; so, anyone who knows me, knows him. Doug had the power to brighten any room he walked into, my goal is to keep his corner of the world lit. I never imagined coming out of the haze of losing my spouse at 34 and smiling again – genuinely having moments of happiness again. I have realized, I am someone else’s hope. That is what this is all about. That you can survive the unimaginable and come out bigger and better than you ever thought you would. If I can give one person hope, then I have succeeded.

I look forward to connecting with you and your support!

Cheers!
Nicole Villars
