The Aures family moved back to the Fox Valley in 2024 after Shelly’s father died, settling into new jobs and routines just before Shelly found a breast lump that turned out to be Stage 2, Grade 3 triple-positive breast cancer. She has completed chemo, surgery, and radiation, and is now on targeted therapy with a low-dose chemo infusion every three weeks through May 2026.

In June of 2024 the Aures family relocated to the Fox Valley from Stoughton, WI. They made this decision after Shelly's Dad passed away in August 2023 from an extremely aggressive form of lung cancer in order to be closer to family. Shelly being a Kimberly, WI native and meeting her husband Matt at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, they knew coming back home was the right move for their family. They began to settle into new jobs (Shelly- a second grade teacher in Appleton and Matt- a police officer for Grand Chute), schools, and routines - being a soccer and hockey family, life doesn't stop!

Fast forward to February 2024: Shelly discovered a large lump on her breast right before her 44th birthday. She immediately reached out to a doctor and over the course of several weeks had tests, biopsies and scans. The results: Stage 2 Grade 3 Triple Positive Breast Cancer.

The plan of attack was quickly laid out. 6 rounds of chemotherapy mixed with targeted therapy (occuring every 21 days), followed by surgery to remove any remaining cancerous cells. After surgery will come radiation 5 days a week over the course of 3 weeks. The targeted therapy will then continue via infusions every 21 days for the remaining months of a one year treatment plan to address the HER2 portion of her cancer diagnosis. Following that she will be on hormone blockers for 5 years since her specific cancer is fed by Estrogen and Progesterone.

Shelly has finished chemotherapy, radiation and successfully had surgery. She is currently doing a targeted therapy with a baby dose of chemotherapy every three weeks through May 2026.
